QUARTETS
Singing in smaller groups is encouraged within the chorus and is
often used as part of our rehearsals in the run-up to
competitions.
In addition, every year we normally have an informal ‘Any- ette’
evening when chorus members are encouraged to get together in a
quartet or a slightly larger group with chorus friends and either
learn a new song or sing a chorus song together. This is usually a
great fun evening, with the members making the most of their
creative talents complete with colourful costumes, and both
serious and comedy numbers being sung to the other chorus members.
To add to the fun, prizes are offered across a wide range of
criteria such as ‘most colourful costumes’, ‘best faces’, ‘most
entertaining’ etc.
Singing in a quartet is great fun and also confidence-building. It
helps each of the four voice parts appreciate how important it is
to listen to each other to produce the best sound.
A number of the chorus sing together regularly in a quartet. We
have at least four quartets who meet regularly: Concordia,
Confusion, Fortuna and Shirazz.
Some quartets meet for their own enjoyment and to improve their
skills, whereas others also like to compete in barbershop
competitions and local Music Festivals (where they have enjoyed
recent success) and to entertain local audiences at private
events.
