ABOUT
THE TUDOR ROSES
In The Beginning ...
The Tudor Roses Chorus was formed in January 1995 by Kathy Baldwin and Leslie Smith, two very experienced Barbershop singers who had moved to the Winchester area. Because there was no local group, they decided to form their own and so they contacted the local media and, with some gentle persuasion, they found themselves with 15 members on their opening night. These ladies became the founder members of The Tudor Roses.

Since then ...
the chorus has grown in numbers and ability. We now have
about 35 members and each year sees us rising further up the
national "league table".
We regularly compete in local music festivals where we have won
several trophies (see our News and Photos Sections).
We are affiliated to
our national organisation, the Ladies Association of British
Barbershop Singers (LABBS). Each Autumn we usually compete in the
National Championships and are proud to say that we are getting better and better!
2006 saw the chorus
compete
in its first International Competition against both men's and
ladies choruses. We were delighted to be awarded fifth place and
be the third placed ladies chorus.
Besides competing at
local, national and international level, we have a busy diary
of bookings for entertaining at local events.
In addition, we have played an active role in the community and have entertained in local residential homes,
run free vocal workshops and participated in local Charity Concerts.

Our Musical Director is
Di Crosfield, who has been involved in Barbershop Harmony for some 26 years both as a singer, Musical Judge and Chorus Director. She manages to combine commitment and learning with laughter and fun and her experience is leading the way to
the continued success for the Chorus. |
We meet on Monday nights at All Saints Church Hall, Petersfield Road, Winchester, from 7.30 - 10pm. In
the run up to major competitions, we have extra rehearsals at weekends, in order to keep us "match fit".
Why not come along and have a look (and listen) for yourself. If you are a little shy and would prefer to meet or speak to one of us in advance, that is no problem. Just contact one of our members and she can arrange to bring you along with
her (see Join us).
Quartets
Singing in smaller
groups is encouraged within the chorus and is often used as part of
our rehearsals in the run-up to competitions. For further
information visit our Quartets page.
